De spite this slight shif t in emph asis and a po st-war setting, The Seventh Bul let is closer to a typical war  film than other  Red Wester  ns bec ause of a  prominen ce of tactical resourcefulness i n th e devel opment of the plot. Although of cou rse t his is a staple of many American Westerns from John  Ford's cavalry ser  ies t  o the  many Apache  war films.　　Despite the restorati on of Soviet power in the area, Basmachis conti nue to arrive from across the border, bringing death and d estruction to peaceful villa ges.   One of the bands of rebels is l ed by Khair ulla who is pitted against the mil itsiya (local  militia) leader Maxumov. At first it seems hop eles s for Maxumov as the rebels capt ure most of  his men, winning them ov er to his si de. He  has only one  strategy left; to give himself up   , and  try  to explain to the people  that Khairulla has d eceived them, turn ing the soldiers back to r evolution. Later  in pursuit  of his enemy,  he chases Khairulla across a river.
