《極度恐慌1983》是由知名导演Jacinto Molina 执导的一部恐怖片，Paul Naschy Julia Saly Lo 等倾情出演，该片讲述了：　　PANIC BEATS begins with a to  tally n ude woman with w elts on her  body, running   through a mist  y forest  full of decayed skeletons.  A knight on horse back is chasing  her, and we soon learn  that he is Alar ic de Marnac (a wick ed character Naschy first created for HORRO R RISES FRO M THE  TOMB),  vicious ly killing h er for  her unfaithful ways. After the credits role, we are taken to the present where a descendent of Marnac named Pa ul (Nasch y) is married to the wealthy Geneviève (Julia Saly) was has som e serious  heart proble ms. Paul decides to take her to his ancestral home i n the  country for some peace and quiet,  but the su perstitious-filled se tting opens a Pandora’s Box of ter rible occurrence s.　　We  soon discover that P aul is a real son-of-a-bitch who plans to scare his wife to death , planni ng to contr ol her fortune and  continue his sec  ret  affair with se ductive ba  d girl Mireille  (Silvia Miró), who happens to be the niece o f the ta rot card-reading housekeeper, Mabil e (Lola Ga  os). Paul’s mal evolent sc heme works, but he still has to worry ab out an additional money-h ungry mistress (this guy really  gets around!)  , the unf orgiving Mabil e, as well as n ew fianceé M ireil le who might be hiding a thing  or two herself.  More grisly murders follow,  and the gho st of Marnac returns fr om hell to punis h the most despicable human  character in the  film.　　PANIC BEATS w as also written by Naschy  (under hi s real name  Jacinto Molina) w ho inject s the film w ith an old-fashio ned spooky house  motif, beefed up with a mo dern mo vie sense of vio  lence and s exuality. The fi lm offers nothing too i nnovat ive storywi se, and  even Naschy admits  on the disc’s extras that it was partly insp ired by GASLI GHT a nd REBECCA,  but he seems to just t oss in a hod gepodge of exploitat ion and horror ingre dients, while delivering a s tylish an d enjoyabl  e effort with a number of twists and some genuinely chilling moments. The cam era shots and lighting ar e both effectiv e, and there 9;s even do es a c ool set- up (much like what Freddie F rancis  did in  THE SKULL and THE CREEPING FLESH) where we  see the point of view of Marnac  through hi s dar k helmet as he stalks his female prey.  Graphically , we  are exposed to everyth ing from a pla te of  bloody eye balls, to  victims be ing beaten relentlessly wit h the variou s Medieval weapons affixed on the  house’s walls (for exa  mple, someone is  axed in the stomach, f ollowed by the s oaked entrails oozing out !). Naschy  ’s most freq uent 198 0s leadi ng lady, Jul ia Saly, is not given  much to do, but  with her offbeat looks, is a nic e presence n onetheless. The prominent female star here is Silvia M iró who is  seen in th  e buff frequently, an d she c ertainly makes for some we ll-apprecia  ted Euro  starlet eye candy .
