《難以置信的事實》是由知名导演霍爾·哈特利 执导的一部喜劇片,安德林妮·夏莉 羅伯特·約翰·伯克 馬特·馬洛伊 等倾情出演,该片讲述了: Fraught with ove r ob vious symbolism, Har tley 's early feature is nonetheless a joy to watch. Hal here shows us his u ncanny ability to cas t his cha racters perf ectly came early in his career . Adrienne Shelley is a near perfect foil t o herself, e qual parts a nnoying teen burg eoning in her sexuality (t hough using sex for several years); obsessed with doom and ins pired by idealism gone wrong she is dec eptive ly – and simulta neou sly – complex and sim ple. Her Audrey inspires so m any levels of symbol ism it is almo st embarrassingly rich (e.g ., her mode ling career beginning with phot os of her fo ot – culminat ing her doi ng nud e (but un seen) wor k; Manh attan mo ve; Euro pe tri p; her stea ling, t hen sleep ing with the mechani cs wrench, e tc.) As Josh, Rob ert Burk e gives an absolutely maste rful perfo rmance. A reformed prisoner/peniten t he returns to h is home town to face dow n pa st demons, accept his lot and begin a new life. Dressed in black, and repeatedly mis taken f or a priest, he corrects everyone ("I& #39;m a mechan ic" ), yet the symbolism is rich: he abstains from al cohol, he pract ices celibacy (is, in fact a virgin), and se emingly ha s taken on vows of poverty , and humility as well. T he humility seems hardes t to swallow seeming, at times, al most f alse, a pretense. Yet, as w e learn more of Josh we see genuinene ss i n his mod esty, that his humilit y is in deed earnes t and believable . What se ems ironic is the ch aracter is f airly forth right in his simplicity, yet so richly drawn it becomes th e viewer who wants to make him out as more than what he act ually is. A fasci natingly wr itten character, perfec tly pla yed. The scene betwee n Josh and Jane (a wonderfu l, young Edie Falco . . . "You need a woman not a girl ") is hilarious . . . real. But Hartle y can't leav e it as such and hi s trick, havin g the ac tors rep eat the dialogue over-and- over becomes frust ratingly "a rty" and annoy ing . . . u ntil again it becom es hilar ious. What a t errific sense of bizarre rea lity t his lends the film ( like kids in a perpetual " am not"/&quo t;are to o" argu ment). Hartley 9;s wea ves all of a small neighborhood' ;s i dios yncrasies into a tapestry o f see ming stere otypes bu t which delves far b enea th the sur face, the cat alyst being that everyone believes they know what the & quot;unbelievable truth" of the title is, yet no two people can agree (including ou r hero) on what exactly that truth is. A won derful li ttle movie with some big ideas.
