《殘酷》是由知名导演廣濑貴士 执导的一部恐怖片，Katrina Grey 仁科貴 亞矢乃 Naho 等倾情出演，该片讲述了：　　Constantly on the  hunt and suff ering fr om hallucinati ons that drive his violent nature, an u nnamed   man is capturing women and savagely beating them to death. Meanwhile, a woman is luring men into a violent end, by  way of her knife. Driven  by the s ame force to  make the opposite sex suffer, the killers’ fates int ertwine. T he two must face off in a batt le to the death, in which they  are forced to reve al the horrible truth behind their addiction to murder.　　“Brutal” takes an interesting approach to its visuals, drawing heavy in fluence from Western “Grindh ouse” film s, using a filter to make th e footage appear  grainy , damaged, and with light an d col or fluctua  tions. Un fortu nately , the visual styling end s up feelin g misgui ded, as oth er tha n applying the filter it does not imitat  e any other a spects of the “Grindhou se”   genre  . Despite tryi ng to dirty  up the film, it is app arent it was shot on digital  . Th e cinematogr aphy is also  a step above m ost “Grindh ouse” pro ductio ns, with Takashi Hiro se proving he has  talent behind the cam era. E xterior shots to those taking place  in small spaces are all competently framed, lit, and   transition well.  The decis ion to add an effe ct on top of the work hurts t he film’  s imagery and even gi ves a sense of  desperation to try to capture a cer tain type of nostalgia with the audience, i nstead of relyin g on its own strengths. It is unfortun ate when  one creative choi ce can hurt a productio n so much.　　The story o f “Brutal” is simple but eff  ective, it doe s attempt some sort of social comm entary abou t the violent  natur e of men and women, but it  does not offer enough depth in to the sub ject to justify the amount of violen ce on displa y. T he film does end on a strong no te with  an interesting twist, w  ith a reveal that  is bound to gross some out, while giving others  a chuckle.
