The ep isode ends with the preside nt finally deciding to order Shareef' ;s assassinatio n (a legally questionab le act ) and C. J. 9;s agent's murder , just after the man threatening C.J. was caught. From a critical perspe ctive, se ries creat or Aaron Sor kin acknowledged in Octo ber 2002 that the terro rism-related plots designed t o keep th e se ries re levant after the real-life 9 /11 attacks were awkward at times , saying "from we ek to week, you felt like you wer e writing the show handcuffed , a littl e bit. I didn't know how to write it anymore. It was a constant search for w hat I wasn& #39;t doing that used to make the sho w work. [...] Maybe there was a way t o make it work; th ere prob ably was .
